Relocating to Las Vegas is a decision that more Americans are making every year, and as someone who has personally relocated from Chicago to Dubai and from Dubai to Las Vegas, I can tell you that this city delivers on its promises. The sunshine, the affordability, the lifestyle, the no state income tax: it all adds up to a compelling package for families, professionals, and retirees alike.

Why People Are Moving to Las Vegas

The reasons are practical and lifestyle-driven. Nevada has no state income tax, which means immediate savings for anyone moving from states like California, New York, or Illinois. Housing costs are dramatically lower than comparable cities on the West Coast. A home in the $600K to $1.2M range in Las Vegas would cost two to three times as much in the San Francisco Bay Area or coastal Southern California.

Where to Live

Choosing the right neighborhood is the most important decision you will make. Each area of the valley has a distinct character:

Summerlin is the go-to for families and professionals who want top schools, Red Rock Canyon access, and a polished master-planned environment. Henderson offers the safety, schools, and small-city feel that relocating families love. West Side Las Vegas delivers excellent value and newer construction for budget-conscious buyers.

What I Wish I Had Known

Having relocated internationally myself, here are a few things I share with every client moving to Las Vegas:

The heat is real, but manageable. Summers are hot, but the dry climate makes it more comfortable than humid heat. Most of your time will be spent in air-conditioned spaces anyway, and pools are a way of life here.

The outdoors are incredible. My husband Craig and I hike regularly at Red Rock Canyon, and we have explored trails throughout the valley. The outdoor lifestyle here rivals anywhere in the country.

The food scene is underrated. Beyond the Strip, Las Vegas has an incredible local dining scene, especially along the Spring Mountain corridor (Chinatown) and in Henderson’s growing restaurant row.

Community exists here. Las Vegas is not just a tourist destination. The communities I serve, from Summerlin to Henderson to West Side Las Vegas, have strong neighborhood bonds, active community groups, and genuine small-town feelings within a big-city metro.
